Early Medieval China was founded in 1994 and is the only journal in the world dedicated to studying the period of change from the late Han Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty (approximately 220-589 AD). This interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal explores various aspects of China's early medieval history, literature, society, religion, thought, and material culture. The themes include: the historical and cultural development of the late Han, early Tang, Southern and Northern Dynasties, beauty literature and literary criticism during this period, religious and philosophical movements, interaction between ethnic minorities and China and non local dynasties, art and archaeology, and technological inventions.
