Monumenta Nipponica is one of the oldest and most respected English academic journals in the field of Asian studies. The journal was founded by Johannes B. Kraus, an economics professor at Sophia University, and served as its first editor. Since its inception, Sophia University has been responsible for publishing and funding the journal. This journal provides an international platform for researchers of different nationalities and disciplinary backgrounds to publish original academic contributions on Japanese history, literature, art history, religion, and thought. The journal not only publishes original academic articles and timely book reviews, but also provides authoritative translations of a wide range of Japanese historical and literary materials.
